#AnimaloftheWeek: Feral Horse

Introduced to Nevada by miners and ranchers, these feral animals are now protected under the Wild Horse and Burro Act of 1971. Declared “living symbols of the historic and pioneer spirit of the West,” horses can be found grazing around scenic grassy meadows. But please be sure to take your photographs from afar, as it is illegal to feed and approach these feral ungulates. Although they may appear friendly, they are known to kick and bite without notice, and human interaction draws them closer to roadways which can be fatal.
