Scrub jays are part of the Corvidae family, a highly intelligent group of birds that are known to hide or cache their food for later use. When nuts are available, these birds will carry them to a cache site and hide them to eat later. When available, scrub jays will also hide perishable foods such as insects and berries. These mischievous birds are even known to steal from other birds stashes.

Scrub Jays are year-round residents of the Spring Mountains that can be found in low scrub pinyon-juniper life zones.
