During the December 2018 federal government shutdown, we will share updates as to how it affects the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area as they are made public. Information here may be limited and not include all closure activity. All media inquiries should contact the USDA Forest Service via pressoffice@fs.fed.us during the shutdown.

12pm 1/26/19
With Friday's continuing resolution the Department of Interior has been funded through February 15th. The USDA Forest Service is moving to return to normal staffing and service. The Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway and other forest facilities will resume operations as soon as possible.

5pm PST 1/17/19
The Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway will be open 9am to 4pm on weekends and holidays only, operated by Southern Nevada Conservancy. Lee Canyon is open and also managing the Old Mill ($15) and Foxtail ($25) snowplay areas (weekends only) which have parking, restrooms, and concessions. The Retreat and Lodge are open as well. If you have questions regarding your recreation.gov reservation, please contact them directly.

3pm PST 1/9/19
Current closure conditions still in place until further notice, including the Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway and trailhead restrooms. Lee Canyon is open and also managing the Old Mill ($15) and Foxtail ($25) snowplay areas (weekends only) which have parking, restrooms, and concessions. The Retreat and Lodge are open as well. 9am PST 12/24/18
With the US Senate adjourned through Thursday morning, current closure conditions are expected to continue as-is through at least Thursday.

9am PST 12/22/18
Facilities will be closed likely through the weekend, and visitors are asked to be especially careful since the snow right now is thin and icy. Lee Canyon, Mt Charleston Lodge, and The Retreat on Charleston Peak remain open during the shutdown, and Nevada Highway patrol and Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department continue to patrol and enforce parking and safety regulations as normal.

9pm PST 12/21/18
The Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway will not be open on Saturday, December 22.
