About the Event

Join us this National Trails Day for an engaging and informative hike along the Acastus Trail in the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area!

Forest Service Archaeologist Alicia will guide you through the rich history of the Spring Mountains and Kyle Canyon, concluding with a hike ending at Fletcher Canyon Campground.

Starting at the Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway, you’ll delve into the history of the Spring Mountains NRA and our invaluable historic resources. Then, embark on a scenic journey along the 3.5-mile Acastus Trail, leading you to the picturesque Fletcher Canyon Campground and the historic Kyle Canyon Administration Site.

This program is approximately 1.5 hours (3.6 miles out-and-back). Please check the weather, dress in layers, and come prepared with sturdy, close-toed shoes, water, and sun protection. Optional equipment can include hiking poles, a backpack, and snacks.

*Registration is required for this program. Please email Alicia Evans to reserve your spot. [email protected]

About the Location

The trail offers a family-friendly experience and is ideal for beginners, featuring a gradual incline with an elevation gain of approximately 500 feet.

Our hike will commence at the Visitor Gateway’s small amphitheater. The trailhead is also located here. See visitor use map for more information.

For those not planning to hike the full 3.5 miles back to the Visitor Gateway, we suggest arranging pickup at the Fletcher Canyon Trailhead in Kyle Canyon. While there are no shuttles in the Spring Mountains, there is parking available near the trail’s end in Kyle Canyon.

The trail welcomes dogs, but please remember to keep them on a leash at all times.

Please come prepared for warm weather with ample water, sunscreen, snacks, and a hat for shade.
