SUMMARY:National Trails Day Hike: Exploring the History of the Spring Mount
 ains
DESCRIPTION:About the Event\n\nJoin us this National Trails Day for an enga
 ging and informative hike along the Acastus Trail in the Spring Mountains 
 National Recreation Area!\n\nForest Service Archaeologist Alicia will guid
 e you through the rich history of the Spring Mountains and Kyle Canyon\, c
 oncluding with a hike ending at Fletcher Canyon Campground.\n\nStarting at
  the Spring Mountains Visitor Gateway\, you'll delve into the history of t
 he Spring Mountains NRA and our invaluable historic resources. Then\, emba
 rk on a scenic journey along the 3.5-mile Acastus Trail\, leading you to t
 he picturesque Fletcher Canyon Campground and the historic Kyle Canyon Adm
 inistration Site.\n\nThis program is approximately 1.5 hours (3.6 miles ou
 t-and-back). Please check the weather\, dress in layers\, and come prepare
 d with sturdy\, close-toed shoes\, water\, and sun protection. Optional eq
 uipment can include hiking poles\, a backpack\, and snacks. \n\n*Registra

 ur spot. alicia.evans@usda.gov\n\nAbout the Location\n\nThe trail offers a
  family-friendly experience and is ideal for beginners\, featuring a gradu
 al incline with an elevation gain of approximately 500 feet.\n\nOur hike w
 ill commence at the Visitor Gateway's small amphitheater. The trailhead is
  also located here. See visitor use map for more information.\n\nFor those
  not planning to hike the full 3.5 miles back to the Visitor Gateway\, we 
 suggest arranging pickup at the Fletcher Canyon Trailhead in Kyle Canyon. 
 While there are no shuttles in the Spring Mountains\, there is parking ava
 ilable near the trail's end in Kyle Canyon.\n\nThe trail welcomes dogs\, b
 ut please remember to keep them on a leash at all times.\n\nPlease come pr
 epared for warm weather with ample water\, sunscreen\, snacks\, and a hat 
 for shade.
