About the Event
Join the Las Vegas Astronomical Society on Mount Charleston for our last stargazing event of the summer! The public can view the night sky through the telescopes of volunteer members. We’ll have snacks, drinks, and retail items for sale.
While it may be warm in the Valley, temperatures in the Spring Mountains can be 20-30 degrees cooler, so bring a jacket and warm layers. Chairs and blankets are welcome for the guest speaker’s presentation, and flashlights with red light options are recommended to minimize light pollution. Dogs are welcome but must be on a leash at all times.
Our guest speaker for the evening will be Rachel Langgin, a Ph.D. candidate in Astronomy at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Rachel’s research focuses on gravitational waves and binary compact objects like black holes and neutron stars. She is a member of the LIGO-Virgo-Kagra Scientific Collaboration and collaborates with Dr. Brad Cenko of the Neil Gehrels Swift Observatory. Outside of her research, Rachel enjoys sharing her passion for astrophysics through outreach and public observing events.
