Join Southern Nevada Conservancy and the Desert National Wildlife Refuge to raise awareness about Wildlife Refuges and help raise funds. Together we will raise money to help people discover, understand, and enjoy their public lands through Walk for the Wild than we ever could alone!
Sign up for free to join the 5K Challenge to raise awareness of the National Wildlife Refuge System and Team Desert Refuge Strides by walking or moving 5K at our event on October 9th from 8am until 2:30pm.

Event Details
Walk for the Wild: Self-guided and guided educational walks
When: Sunday, October 9th, from 9:00 am until 2:30 pm.
Where: Desert National Wildlife Refuge, 16001 Corncreek Rd
Las Vegas, NV 89124
What: Walk for the Wild with us, and raise funds, all while exploring the sites and sounds of Desert National Wildlife Refuge. Learn about when and where you might see the wildlife that calls the Refuge home. Discover the animals that called this area home long before humans occupied this area and learn about the early human inhabitants of Corn Creek.
Guided Hikes:
9:00 am-10:30 am
Join local ecologist, Jim Boone on an early morning bird hike and discover the diversity of migrating birds at the Desert National Wildlife Refuge.
This walk will start at 9:00 am at the visitor center and make its way around the refuge trails.
Check in outside the visitor center and come prepared with sturdy, close-toed shoes, water, and sun protection. Recommended equipment includes binoculars and a bird identification app or book.
11:00 am-12:30 pm
Join rangers from Tule Spring Fossil Beds National Monument for a late morning walk to discover the past human and animal inhabitants of Corn Creek.
This walk will start at 11:00 am at the visitor center and make its way around the refuge trails.
Check in outside the visitor center and come prepared with sturdy, close-toed shoes, water, and sun protection.
1:00 pm-2:30 pm
Join NDOW education ranger, Jess Brooks, for a walk around the trails of the Desert National Wildlife Refuge and learn where wildlife might be hiding and how we can better look for them! Along this guided walk, the group will practice their nature identification skills, practice looking for wildlife, and learn some fun facts about how Southern Nevada’s animals coexist in such a delicate, yet harsh environment.
This walk will start at 1:00 pm at the visitor center and make its way around the refuge trails.
Check in outside the visitor center and come prepared with sturdy, close-toed shoes, water, and sun protection.
Self-Guided Hikes:
Participants are encouraged to take a self-guided hike around the Refuge as well. To complete the self-guided hike, stop by the check-in table outside the visitor center between the hours of 8:00 am and 3pm pm to pick up a map and details about the trails.
