Help Green the Mountain to celebrate National Public Lands Day all month!

This year, we’re taking our annual National Public Lands Day Cleanup virtual, and taking the whole month to celebrate. Each year our volunteers remove thousands of pounds of trash in one day, so how much can we gather for the entire month of September?

We're asking everyone to grab a bag and head out to your favorite spot in the Spring Mountains to collect litter, take pictures, and win prizes! Everyone who participates will receive a sticker and a discount code to our online store.

How to join the fun:

  • Pick up litter in any place you enjoy visiting in the Spring Mountains. Trails, trailheads, parking lots, picnic areas, campgrounds, open spaces, meadows, washes and gullies, and roadside pullouts all need some TLC!
  • Take photos of the fun, along with the bags you collect and any of the unique or strange items you find.

Celebrating your hard work:

  • We’ll share the photos that you send us and tag us in throughout September to inspire more people to pitch in
  • Everyone who participates will receive stickers and a discount code to our store
  • We’ll select prize pack winners for most trash collected, unique items found, and other creative entries, so look for our announcement on Friday, October 2nd. Prize packs include all sorts of goodies, including a gift card to pick our your favorite Go Mt Charleston gear!

Clean up responsibly:

  • Preserve historic sites by leaving old, rusty cans and other aged items in place, but feel free to take photos to share with us.
  • Groups should be less than a dozen (must be less than 50 per current guidelines) since large groups create extra wear and tear on the land, so make sure you follow Leave No Trace and forest rules.
  • Pick up safely: wear protective clothing and shoes, bend with your knees, use gloves and sanitizer, avoid traffic and wildlife, watch the weather to avoid lightning and flash floods, and always stay near your group to avoid getting lost. Don’t forget your sunscreen and water!
  • We would prefer you pack out the trash you collect, but large items and big bags can be left next to the green trash & recycling bins located at many of the trailheads.
