The Harris Springs area of the Spring Mountains is still recovering from the 2013 Carpenter 1 Fire with the help of humans and natural processes

Harris Springs, part of both the central portion of the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area and the northwest corner of Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, is a quiet side canyon east of the more popular "Mt. Charleston" areas that include Kyle and Lee canyons. Nestled south of SR 157/Kyle Canyon Rd, Harris Springs is popular with backcountry hikers and OHV adventurers while serving as a vital watershed that flows to the northwest portion of the Las Vegas valley. The 2013 Carpenter 1 fire, and the heavy floods that came before the fire was fully contained, have deeply affected the health of the canyon. The Forest Service gathered expert crews, engaged local nonprofits and volunteers, and sought various sources of funding to work through the restoration process and is now wrapping up many of the larger projects.
