We’ve been getting lots of requests for volunteer hours from students looking to complete their scholarship requirements. Well, kids, you’re in luck: the Russian Thistle (better known as tumbleweeds) growth was huge last year so we are expanding our volunteer time to get them taken care of!
This invasive species of plant reseeds over wide spaces when they dry up and tumble away, making them widespread. They don’t need much water so last year’s winter snow levels gave the seed s a great start. Tumbleweeds a big fire hazard too, and we need help gathering them up before the warm weather gets here. Volunteers are welcome to come put in volunteer hours any time our program staff is on site, so email volunteer@gomtcharleston.com to sign up. Gloves are provided.
